Comme Avira AntiVir Personal Free, AVG est un anti-virus gratuit, proposant malgré tout un certain nombre d'outils indispensables pour un bon antivirus, à savoir une protection résidente en mémoire, protection au niveau des Email, scan sur demande avec planification, mises à jour gratuites de la base et du moteur d'analyse, ou encore mise en quarantaine.

L'interface du logiciel, qui était autrefois assez rustique, s'est nettement améliorée avec la dernière version, et n'a plus rien à envier aux autres antivirus gratuits. Les performances en matière de détection n'ont jamais totalement convaincu dans les versions précédentes, mais on a toujours noté une tendance à l'amélioration sur ce point au fil des versions.

Il est encore de bon ton de disposer d'une disquette de démarrage pour dépanner une machine gravement plantée, le problème étant qu'il faut souvent manipuler plusieurs disquettes pour arriver à ses fins. Las de Norton Utitilies ? Fatigué de System Mechanic ? Marre des Jv16 PowerTools ? Si tel est le cas TuneUp Utilities pourrait bien vous combler. Son éditeur propose avec ce pack tout-en-un une véritable mine d'or en manière d'utilitaires et pourtant son fichier d'installation pèse moins de 10 Mo ! TuneUp Utilities comporte également un module d'informations système qui dispense quelques indications sur votre configuration et le module SystemControl permet de changer l'apparence et certains réglages de Windows XP. On pourra notamment changer les effets graphiques, activer ou désactiver certaines animations, régler le lissage des polices et la fonction ClearType mais aussi changer le comportement de la souris ou du menu démarrer. Comme si ce la ne suffisait TuneUp dispose également d'un ProcessManager qui liste les processus actifs et permet de les tuer et le tout est complété d'un optimiseur de la RAM qui va automatiquement libérer de la RAM tout en la réorganisant. On retrouvera également un outil d'analyse des Disques durs visant à corriger les erreurs de système de fichiers. La dernière version voit également l'arrivée tant attendue d'un défragmenteur de disque, même si les options de celui ci sont quasi inexistantes par rapport à un logiciel dédié. Enfin TuneUp Utilities permet de remettre de l'ordre dans l'affichage des programmes à désinstaller, il dispose d'un module de protection de la corbeille, d'un broyeur pour effacer tous vos fichiers sans laisser de tracer et cerise sur le gâteau le logiciel comprend WinStyler qui permet de changer les icônes mais aussi l'apparence de votre bureau Windows en téléchargeant tout simplement des packs de thème, gratuits, sur le site de l'éditeur. Si FL Studio n'est pas le logiciel rêvé pour mixer, il est vous sera d'une grande aide si vous aimez torturer les samples. Office 2010 approche à grands pas. Microsoft lancera la deuxième bêta de sa future suite bureautique ce mercredi 18 novembre en fin d'après-midi (heure française), et il se pourrait bien qu'elle soit ouverte au public. Microsoft a effectivement prématurément mis en ligne un site internet dédié à la bêta d'Office 2010, sur lequel apparait un lien « Téléchargez Office 2010 Bêta », qui ne fonctionne pas encore. Si le texte est bien en français, le logiciel devrait toutefois rester en anglais.

Ce site internet présente une approche résolument grand public et propose notamment de découvrir les principales nouveautés d'Office 2010, déjà évoquées en long, en large et en travers. Par rapport à la première bêta qui était quant à elle restée fermée, cette nouvelle version corrige une flopée d'imperfections et apporte une interface peaufinée, avec une interface ruban généralisée.

L'édition Starter, qui sera inaugurée avec Office 2010 en remplacement de l'intégré bureautique Works, ne semble malheureusement pas avoir droit à sa bêta publique. Le principe d'une suite logicielle gratuite financée par la publicité attise pourtant les curiosités. Office Web Apps devrait en revanche être disponible.

La suite a déjà été distribuée à une sélection de testeurs triés sur le volet, avant de se retrouver, comme à l'accoutumée, dans la nature. L'édition 2010 de la suite bureautique est d'ailleurs la première à être déclinée en version 64 bits en plus de l'inévitable version 32 bits, comme en témoignent les sites de téléchargement sur lesquels on peut les trouver. Chacune de ces versions pèsent respectivement 709 et 645 Mo dans leur édition professionnelle.

La firme de Redmond a indiqué qu'elle distribuerait plusieurs millions de clés d'activation pour la bêta publique, sans préciser toutefois si leur nombre serait limité ni à quelle date elles expireront. La commercialisation d'Office 2010 est en tout cas prévue pour le printemps prochain, et pour la première fois en téléchargement légal.
